The Power Juicer from Jack LaLanne is a very popular series of juicers, especially given the fact that the company’s founder, Jack LaLanne, has been a very well known fitness enthusiast, tv host and health and fitness author. Apart from exercising and dieting, increasing the daily consumption of fresh, uncooked vegetables and fruits is the healthiest activity anyone can engage in. This is because of the enzymes contained in fresh, uncooked vegetables and fruits. It is also worth noting that store-bought juice is not as good as the freshly made variety, you just have to juice by yourself. The Jack LaLanne juicer offers an affordable solution to home-made juice, delivering high quality, fresh, uncooked juice from an affordable machine.

Jack LaLanne – The Man behind the Name
Jack LaLanne has been a fitness icon since the 1930’s. Originally addicted to eating sugar, he turned his life around and embraced the world of physical fitness. By the age of 21, he had opened the first fitness studio in the U.S.A., and went on and invented a myriad of exercise equipment. In fact, all present day fitness gyms are modeled after his original concepts.
Even Arnold Schwarzenegger had once called Jack LaLanne an animal, after LaLanne, then 54 years old, beat the 21 year old Schwarzenegger in a contest. Starting from September 1953, Mr. LaLanne hosted The Jack LaLanne Show, which continued for 34 years. He published many videos and books on nutrition and fitness, and marketed many exercise equipment and two models of electric juicers. Though the first model is no longer available in the market, the second model, the Power Juicer continues to be available for purchase.
Specifications of the Power Juicer
The Jack LaLanne juicer series are vertical centrifugal juicers. They generally feature a large chute that can accommodate whole apples and other large fruits without having to chop them up. Past the chute is the juicing chamber, which comprises a very sharp and horizontally rotating circular blade, at the bottom. Any food item passed into the chute will land on this blade, which rotates at 3600 RPM (Rotations Per Minute). At such high speeds, the blade will turn the food item straight into pulp.
Because of this high speed of rotation, the pulp will be affected by centrifugal forces. These forces will push the pulp against the sides of the juicing chamber, which itself is a sieve. The forces then draw only the liquid past the sieve, leaving behind a dry pulp as waste material. The juice that passed through is then collected together and channeled through the spout into a drinking glass.
The following are the juicers in this review. They include three normal Jack LaLanne juicers plus the 100th anniversary edition Jack LaLanne juicer, which was released in 2014 to celebrate Mr. LaLanne, because he was born in 1914 and would have been a 100 years old then.

1.Jack LaLanne PJEB – The Power Juicer Express
The Jack LaLanne juicer PJEB is available in black, white and stainless steel. It features an extra-wide feeding chute that can accommodate most types of vegetables and fruits. At its standard 3600 RPM speed, the LaLanne PJEB remains unnaturally quiet, which makes it a perfect candidate for people who might want to get up early in the morning to juice, but without disturbing the neighbors. The filter is also one of a kind, instead of tiny pinholes, it is made up of little slits and this makes it easier to clean. Overall, this juicer is very easy to use and to clean, and it does not take up much space.
2.Jack Lalanne JLSS – Deluxe Stainless-Steel Power Juicer
The Jack LaLanne juicer JLSS is available only in stainless steel and comes with the same whisper quiet 3600 RPM motor as the others. It also has a large feeding chute, a large capacity pulp collector and a food pusher for the feeding chute. Fixing the juicer together and using it is simple and straight-forward. It is quite sturdy on the outside, but according to some users, it has some design flaws. The major flaw is that the rim of the basket that acts as the strainer, is made of plastic. For this reason, if you do not fit the parts correctly and turn on the juicer, you may end up with a melted rim and with bits of plastic in your juice.
3.Jack LaLanne JLPJB – Power Juicer Juicing Machine
The Jack LaLanne juicer JLPJB is made totally of plastic and is available only in white. It is all-round quite a good machine. It features the same 3600 RPM like the others, comes with a juicing recipe guide and a large detachable waste pulp container. This juicer’s motor is not really that powerful, so many larger items like large apples will have to be cut-up first before juicing. The only caution is during washing, care has to be taken because the parts are all plastic. Else, it is a great product that fits in well into most kitchens, given it’s pure white color and design.
4.Jack Lalanne SLH90 – The 100th Anniversary Fusion Juicer
The SLH90 is the latest of all four juicers and it also comes with lots of improvements over the earlier models. It was developed to commemorate the birth-year of Jack LaLanne who would have been a 100 years old by 2014, a feat he missed by just 3 years, passing away at a ripe, healthy, old age of 97 years.
Most of its parts are plastic and so care should be taken when washing them, but they are dishwasher safe and it also comes with a large 25 ounces pitcher. The 800 Watt motor delivers enough power to speedily slice up and juice most fruits without additional help. It also features a two-speed switch and comes with the ultimate juicing book guide. Overall, the waste pulp is usually quite dry, meaning that most juice is extracted from the pulp. And to top it all off, it costs just $65 brand new.
The winner here is very obvious. It is the Jack LaLanne juicer SLH90, the 100th Anniversary edition, the fourth product in this review. It is more efficient than all the other models, and features a more powerful motor. This model comes with a surgically sharp blade, in fact the sharpest blade to be built into a LaLanne juicer, ever. And to top it all off, it is being offered at the lowest price of all, of just $65.
If you are looking for the perfect Jack LaLanne juicer at a great price, then the SLH90 100th Anniversary Fusion juicer is simply the perfect machine for you.
